The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados wants the morals and values which once formed the bedrock of the Barbadian society, to be restored. The call has come from CTUSAB General Secretary, Dennis Depeiza in his Christmas message. He says there seems to be a crisis among young people, characterised by indiscipline, a lack of respect, disregard for law and order, deviant behaviour and crime and violence. CTUSAB is therefore suggesting there must be a limit to the rights extended to people, and specifically children. Political commentator Peter Wickham is not surprised by Member of Parliament for St James North Edmund Hinkson's announcement that he has officially passed the baton to Senator Chad Blackman. He says such shifts are not new, as the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has in the past changed candidates midstream and this particular move was anticipated. However, Mr Wickham tells CBC News what surprises him is that there is no announcement of a primary and it is left to be seen whether or not the opposition Democratic Labour Party (DLP) will field a candidate. Mr. Wickham says he has for some time expressed concerns that the opposition seems more interested in attacking the government and less interested in putting its house in order. Mr. Wickham says no political capital should be lost with this move, and it is highly unlikely the seat will be lost to the BLP and this now presents another test for the DLP.
